Smoke detectors are fitted within my home and are tested and maintained on a regular basis. I have access to a telephone, fire blanket and fire extinguisher which are kept in the kitchen. The fire blanket and fire extinguisher would be used if access out of my home is prevented by the fire.
If a smoke alarm sounds or a fire is detected then the evacuation of the children is my priority.
I have a fire escape plan - the older children in my care will be trained during regular fire drills to leave my home and assemble a safe distance away from my home. Once everyone has been accounted for, the fire brigade will be contacted.
A copy of my fire plan can be found overleaf. The windows in each bedroom and living room open fully allowing for emergency evacuation if the need arose and the front door was not accessible.
Parents, or emergency contacts, will be notified as soon as practically possible to arrange collection. If necessary we will take refuge in a close by friend’s home or at the Fact Shop, until collection is possible.
