Standard 7: Opportunities for Play and Learning As a registered childminder I will ensure that children in my care will get the option to take part in a range of activities that will help their intellectual, creative, social, physical, communication and emotional development.
I will provide play and other activities which will give the children the opportunity to explore and learn about the world around them while raising their awareness of different cultures. All activities, including play, will be age and development stage appropriate to each individual child.
I will use every day experiences and activities as learning opportunities, remembering to give attention, listen and hold interesting conversations with the children. I will complement and support the children’s learning at home and school and make sure that I keep parents informed on their child’s progress and development whilst in my care. Children’s activities will be observed to aid planning to help develop their play, learning and development.
I understand and apply the principles of the Foundation Phase. I will help children learn to solve problems, learn to think imaginative and develop the Seven C’s (confidence, communication, concentration, competence, cooperation, creativity and coordination) through play and activities that will allow the children to experiment and see how various materials behave and can be used.
Through the above practice, the children that I care for will develop their basic skills, knowledge of what they can and can not do and the consequences of their actions.
Below are some activities for different age ranges:
