My absolute priority is keep children in my care safe.
My home has been checked and meets the national standards for childminding outline by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales. I regularly review, update and practice safety routines.
As a registered childminder I am legally required to have a valid first-aid certificate. I am able to administer basic first-aid treatment. My first aid box is clearly marked and easily accessible. It is stored in my kitchen and the contents are checked regularly. I also keep parent contact numbers with the first aid box.
I hold written permission from parents to get emergency treatment for their children if needed.
Procedure
If there is an accident:
First, I will reassure the injured child while making sure that the other children are safe. This may entail strapping younger children in the pushchair or highchair, or sitting an older child somewhere safe where they can be seen.
If possible I will deal with the injury. If I am not able to then I will ring 999 for help.
If I have to take the child to hospital, I will either call my emergency back-up or take all of the children with me. My emergency back-up will be a responsible adult. This person will be known to you and is listed below.
If there is an accident, either I will contact you or my emergency back-up will contact you and you will be expected to pick up your child straight away.
If I have been able to treat the injury myself, I will contact the parents immediately.
If I accompany the child to hospital then I will contact the parents immediately and ask them to meet me at the hospital.
If I have an accident I will get the nearest known responsible adult to help whilst contacting my emergency back-up.
I will endeavour to do my best to keep the children in my care safe, reassured and kept calm at all times.
