As a registered childminder I will endeavour to work with parents to ensure that the child’s health care needs are met, taking any action that may be required, with the agreement of the parents.
As a registered childminder, the health and safety of the children in my care is my main priority. If a child has an infectious illness, such as vomiting and chickenpox, the child will not be able to enter the premises. The exclusion period will be discussed with parents - usually 48 hours for vomiting.
If a child becomes sick whilst in my care, I will take care to prevent possible infection of the other children. This will include personal hygiene. If a child becomes sick then I will contact and notify the parents, or another adult designated by the parents, as soon as possible.
As a registered childminder I will not allow smoking in my home whilst I have children in my care.
As a registered childminder, if I identify that a child in my care needs specialist help, such as Speech and Language Therapy, I will inform the parents and help them get advice and if need be, treatment.
All of the child’s health care needs will need to be declared at the signing of the contract and the filling out of the child record form. I expect the parent’s to keep me updated with any health care needs that the child may develop. This will help me to meet the needs of the child whilst they are in my care.
I have a current paediatrics first aid certificate and am confident with my skills. I have a first aid box which can be located in the kitchen. It is checked regularly.
During the initial visits, I will discuss Standard 21 Accident and Emergency with parents and ask parents to sign the form, giving me permission to take their child to hospital if there is an emergency.
